When I was 8, my teacher gave me a new nickname: “Compli-Kate.” Like many ADHDers, I was, and am, the sort of person who loves following ideas down complicated rabbit holes and seeing where I ended up. If that sounds familiar, you’ll know it’s both a superpower (who doesn’t love a Galaxy Brain Moment?!) and a source of immense frustration. I have all these amazing ideas, but how do I translate them into something readable? And how do I know which rabbit holes are worth jumping down, anyway? This presentation acknowledges the struggle, while also offering practical advice for getting your most creative thoughts onto the page. Topics include: capturing the complexity of your ideas (including how to use mind-mapping effectively), working with ADHD-related memory issues that make it harder to follow through on your brainwaves, and avoiding “shiny object syndrome”—which can stand between you and your final draft.
